Kids, teens and adults are welcome to join the fun and learn at the Escondido Public Library! Here’s a list of this month’s events. Check out the full website for more information.

All Library facilities will be closed on Monday, September 3rd in observance of Labor Day, and Friday, September 21st for staff training.

What Would You March For? (One Book, One San Diego Event)
Thursday, September 20, 2018, 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Join to create a protest sign that you would be proud to carry. All craft materials will be provided. Simply bring yourself, your ideals, and your artistic side.

Rhymes & Reading Storytime
Mondays, September 10, 17, & 24, 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Ages 4-5
Stories and activities to help preschoolers prepare for kindergarten. Seating is limited to 30 children. Come early to secure a spot!

Knights Realm Chess Club
Mondays, September 10, 17, & 24, 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Ages 6-12
Learn to play or challenge your friends. All levels welcome!

Baby Storytime at San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum
Mondays, September 10, & 24, 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Ages Pre-walkers-3 years.
Join the Escondido Public Library Youth Staff at the SDCDM for a Baby Storytime! Start their love of reading early. The Museum is located at 320 North Broadway.

P.J. Storytime
Tuesday, September 18, 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Ages 5-12
Wear your P.J.s and bring your favorite stuffed animal to one of these evening storytimes at the Library.

Baby Lapsit
Wednesdays, September 5, 12, 19, &26, 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Ages Pre-walkers
Babies from birth to walking and their parents/caregivers enjoy great books, lively songs and rhymes. Seating is limited to 15 babies. Come early to secure a spot! *Attend our special 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Kick-off Event at the Baby Lapsit Storytime on Wednesday, September 5!

Paws for Reading
Wednesdays, September 12, & 26, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Ages 5-12
Read aloud to certified Love on a Leash pet therapy dogs for fun or to help improve reading skills. Children must know how to read. Pre-registration is required: www.escondidolibrary.org/register

Toddler Tales
Thursdays, September 6, 13, 20, & 27, 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Ages Walkers-3 years
Toddlers and their parents/caregivers enjoy interactive stories and action songs. Seating is limited to 30 children. Come early for a spot! *Attend our special 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Kick-off Event at the Toddler Tales Storytime on Thursday, September 6!

Read to a Dragon
Thursdays, September 13, & 27, 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., Ages 5-12

R.E.A.D. Book Club
Friday, September 14, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Ages 9-12
The Read, Eat, and Discuss (R.E.A.D.) Book Club will explore Newsprints by Ru Xu. Circulating copies of the book will be available for checkout and can be obtained at the Youth Services desk, while supplies last. To reserve a copy, visit the Library’s catalog at http://www.escondidolibrary.org. Registration is not required, but please arrive early as space and supplies may be limited.

TEEN EVENTS:

Virtual Reality @ The Library
Tuesdays, September 11, & 25, 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Ages 13-Adult
Step into virtual worlds using the Library’s Oculus Rift Virtual Reality equipment! Interact with unusual creatures and explore familiar and otherworldly landscapes.

Safe Space Escondido
Thursday, September 13, 4:15 p.m. – 5:45 p.m., Ages 12-18
Meet up with other LGBT+ and Allied youth in a safe and friendly space to be yourself, meet new people and participate in craft activities. All facilitators are volunteers for the North County LGBTQ Resource Center’s Project Youth.

Burritos & Book Club
Tuesday, September 25, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Ages 13-18
This month’s book club selection is Jackaby by William Ritter. Grab a copy in the Teen Area, then join us to discuss the book, explore similar titles, get a free book and enjoy some tasty burritos.

San Diego Comic-Con Adult Graphic Novel Book Club
Monday, September 17, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Membership in this group is limited to 20 and determined by application process. This month’s graphic novel selection is I Hate Fairyland: Madly Ever After by Skottie Young.

Rincón Literario Bilingual Book Club
Saturday, September 22, 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
Bilingual book discussion in English and Spanish will discuss Things We Lost in the Fire/Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego by Mariana Enriquez.
