Dr. Gross volunteered on his first archaeological projects as a high school student in 1968, and although he has worked outside San Diego, he has been involved in local archaeology ever since. In his presentation he will reflect on the changes that have happened in the last 50 years – how archaeology has been done, by whom, what we have learned, and what ideas have been discarded.
San Diego archaeologist Dr. G. Timothy Gross has been involved in local archaeology for over 50 years and is currently a professor at San Diego City College, where he directs the college’s excavations at Los Peñasquitos Adobe. He is coauthor of a text book on North American archaeology (Seeking Our Past), and he wrote the chapters dealing with the archaeology of the Pacific Coast.
The mission of the San Diego Archaeological Center is to preserve archaeological collections and promote their educational, scientific, and cultural use to benefit a diverse public.
