Annual Fall-Winter Dixon Lake Trout Derby

The Annual Dixon Lake Trout Derby is on December 6th – 8th.

Lake will be closed to fishing on December 3rd, 4th and 5th in preparation for the fishing derby. Please see the Weekly Fish Report for more information.  Remember that there is a $5 entry fee charged on weekends and holidays.

The lake is open from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day, but you must weigh in your fish at the weigh-in table no later than 4:00 p.m. (no exceptions). Prizes will be awarded for the heaviest fish each day in Youth, Adult and Senior categories, and a Grand Prize for the heaviest fish overall. We’ll also be awarding a prize to the angler that brings in the lightest fish (.5 pound last year). There will also be prizes for the first 15 tagged fish caught. These must also be brought to the weigh-in station by 4:00 p.m. each day to qualify for a prize.

Hidden Valley Kiwanis and The Senior Anglers of Escondido will be hosting their Sixth Annual Children’s Fishing Experience on December 6th and 7th (9-11AM and 1-3PM) for all children 7 and under at Dixon Lake in Escondido, 1700 North La Honda Drive. Fishing is FREE to all eligible children 7 and under. No fishing permits required and all fishing gear and bait will be provided. This opportunity will be held in conjunction with the Escondido’s Annual Trout Season Fishing tournament (Dec 5th through Dec 7th). There is a $5 Park Fee (per car) that is collected by the City of Escondido (Seniors enter free). Food and refreshments will be available, or bring a picnic lunch and celebrate our winter sunshine at the lake.For more information and directions to Dixon Lake check our website at Hidden Valley Kiwanis.

About Dixon Lake
Dixon Lake is open year-round (closed Christmas Day). Gates open at 6:00 a.m. daily; closing hours vary by season.  Contact the Park Ranger office at 760-839-4680 for further information. No pets are allowed at this facility.  If you want a relaxing experience, join us at the Lake during the week and enjoy less crowds and a slower pace.  We still have all the amenities (boat rentals, concessions and camping) but the feeling is a little more laid back.  Parking is free during the week.  There is a $5.00 parking fee per vehicle on Saturday, Sunday and all major holidays and special events. No alcohol and no glass containers please.
